Beschreibung
Zusammenfassung:751,466. Batteries. UNION CARBIDE & CARBON CORPORATION. Nov. 15, 1954 [Dec. 14, 1953], No. 32961/54. Class 53. A deferred action cell comprises a casing 10 enclosing annular electrodes 11, 12 of zinc or lead, and nickel coated with lead peroxide, the electrodes being separated by insulating washers 13 and the whole being clamped together by a washer 14 having lugs 24 bent up and over the uppermost electrode. The electrodes are provided with leads 19 and surround the lower end of a glass ampule 22 containing the electrolyte which may consist of a solution of fluoboric acid. The upper end of the ampule is surrounded by a cardboard ring 16 which is held in place by cardboard cylinders 15, 17 lining the inner surface of the casing 10. The top 18 of the casing can be pressed inwardly without rupturing, for example by a spring loaded plunger, to break the ampule when the cell is required for use. The nickel electrodes may be coated with lead peroxide by electrolysis in a solution of lead nitrate containing nitric acid.
