Plasticized vinyl resin composition

A polymerizable composition, e.g. a plastisol or organosol, comprises a polymer, a plasticizer of the formula. where R is a methylene or ethylene radical, R1 is an olefinically unsaturated hydrocarbon radical of from 2 to 20 carbon atoms, Hal is a chlorine or bromine atom, and Y separately is an alkoxy, aryloxy, chloroalkoxy, bromoalkoxy, chloroaryloxy, or bromoaryloxy, and two Y's together designate the group -OCR2R3CR4R5 CHR6O- in which each R2, R3, R4, R5 and R6 is either a hydrogen atom or an alkyl radical, and n is an integer from 1 to 3, and optionally a peroxy catalyst. The polymer may be polyvinyl chloride, polyvinyl butyral, or a copolymer of vinyl chloride with vinyl acetate, vinyl propionate, methyl or butyl acrylate, methyl or butyl methacrylate, acrylonitrile, vinylidene chloride or dibutyl maleate. The compositions may also contain known plasticizers, heat or light stabilizers, e.g. dibutyl tin dimaleate, dyes, pigments, and/or organic solvents. Specified plasticizers are the diethyl, dibutyl, dioctyl, didecyl, di-2-chloroethyl, diphenyl, dibenzyl and di-(p-chlorophenyl) acryloxychloropropyl phosphates, the corresponding methacrylyloxychloropropyl phosphates and the crotonyloxychloropropyl phosphates, 2-methacrylyloxychloropropoxy - 2 - oxo - 1,3,2 - dioxaphosphorinane, 2 - crotonyloxychloropropoxy - 2 - oxo - 1,3,2 - dioxaphosphorinane, 2 - acrylyloxychloropropoxy - 2 - oxo - 1,3,2-dioxaphosphorinane and the above 2-methacrylyl, 2-crotonyl, and 2-acrylyl radicals with 4 - methyl - 2 - oxo -, 4,6 - dimethyl - 2 - oxo -, 5 - ethyl - 2 - oxo - 4 - propyl -, 5 - butyl - 5 - ethyl - 2 - ox -, and 2 - oxo - 4,4,6 - trimethyl - 1,3,2 - dioxaphosphorinanes. Catalysts mentioned are benzoyl and acetyl peroxides, and tert.-butyl perbenzoate. Specified additional plasticizers are tri-(2-ethylhexyl) phosphate, tricresyl phosphate, di-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate, di-(2-ethylhexyl) adipate, dioctyl sebacate and epoxidized soya bean oils. The compositions are cured by heating at 300 DEG to 350 DEG F. for five to twenty-five minutes. Films and floor-coverings may be made from the compositions. Specification 769,027 is referred to.
