In order to compensate for irregularities in the thread of a screw or nut device the complementary member is formed in three or more sections which are resiliently spaced. In Fig. 1 a nut member 2 comprises three thread sections 3 spaced apart by springs 9 within a cage 4. In Fig. 2 the screw comprises sections 13 spaced apart by rubber discs 16 on a shaft 12 and engaging an internal thread of a sleeve 11. The device is particularly applicable to high precision mechanism such as is required in a ruling or micrometer type measuring machine or the tuning device of an electro discharge apparatus. |
