Winding apparatus

[Class 42 (ii)] In apparatus for winding-up woven fabrics on to a driven take-up roller or shell, piling up of the selvedges is prevented by passing the fabric over a driven guide roller adapted to rotate about an axis at an angle to the central axis of the roller whereby the fabric, passing over said roller on its way to the take-up roller is given a side-to-side movement. As shown, the fabric on its way to the take-up roller 9 passes over a driven guide roller 5, guide rollers 6, 7 and a driven guide roller 8, the roller 5 being mounted so as to describe an eccentric path and give the fabric the side-to-side movement. The ends of the roller 5 are fitted with stub shafts, one being fixed in the centre of the roller and the other, 16, being mounted slightly off centre, and the shafts rotate in bearings mounted in brackets by knuckle-joints which allow free relative movement between the bearings and the brackets. The rollers 5, 8 are driven from the shaft of the roller 9, the speeds of the rollers 8, 5 being somewhat lower than those of the rollers 9, 8 respectively. The driven guide roller 8 may also be mounted to give' the fabric a side-to-side movement.
