[Class 2 (iii)] [Also in Group XX] Polyvinyl propionaldehyde acetal resin is prepared by adding to an aqueous solution of polyvinyl alcohol propionaldehyde and concentrated hydrochloric acid, allowing to stand for 2 hours at room temperature, decanting the super-natant liquid, dissolving the precipitate in ice water, re-precipitating by pouring into hot water, and drying in vacuo. Polyvinyl acetaldehyde-butyraldehyde acetal resin is prepared by treatment as above with the use of acetaldehyde, allowing the solution to stand after reaction, adding N-butyraldehyde, keeping for 20 hours at 15C., and isolating as above.
