Zusammenfassung:	This invention relates to compositions and methods for modifying a WUSCHEL (WUS)-Related Homeobox (WOX) functional gene in a Rosaceae plant, optionally to modify the architecture of the thorns and/or spines, to reduce thorn and prickle number and/or size, or to eliminate thorns and/or prickles. The invention further relates to Rosaceae plants having thorns and/or prickles with a modified architecture, a reduced number and/or size thorns and/or prickles, or no thorns and/or prickles produced using the methods and compositions of the invention. The invention additionally relates to methods of identifying and/or breeding plants having thorns and/or prickles with a modified architecture, a reduced number and/or size thorns and/or prickles, or no thorns and/or prickles.
