Zusammenfassung:	A method for operating a power tool, wherein an application-optimized device characteristic is selected and/or configured by a user of the power tool, wherein the application-optimized device characteristic is defined within the qualified operating range for the power tool. The device characteristic is characterized by a spread value S, wherein the spread value S lies in a range from 0.2 to 0.6. By selecting or configuring the device characteristic, it is possible for the performance of the power tool to be considerably improved since, by determining the device characteristic, the power tool can be made to operate in a range of torque and speed that is optimized, for example, for a certain tool or for a certain application. In a second aspect, the invention relates to a power tool for carrying out the operating method.
