Zusammenfassung:	Technologies and techniques for operating an operating device for a motor vehicle, in which a first touchscreen user input is received, characterizing a selection of a selection level, wherein a first selection level provides different adjustable driving modes as list participants, and a second selection level provides different adjustable ambience modes as list participants, one arranged by turning a ring element which circumferentially encloses the screen device, a second user input represented about an axis of rotation is received, which characterizes a selection of a list participant from a plurality of list participants in the chosen selection level. Depending on the first user input and/or the second user input, a control signal is provided characterizing a driving mode to be set and/or an ambience mode to be set in which a display of the driving mode and/or the ambience mode is triggered using the screen device.
