Zusammenfassung:The vulcanization of rubber is accelerated by the addition to the mix of a nitrosated arylamino methylarylenethiazyl sulphide of the general formula where R is an aryl group and R1 is an arylene thiazyl group. The compounds are prepared by the nitrosation of an arylaminomethyl-arylenethiazyl sulphide of the formula R--NH.CH2.S--R1. R and R1 being defined as above. This latter compound is prepared by reacting a methylene aryl imide of the formula R--N = CH2 with a mercaptoarylene thiazole at a relative low temperature, i.e. not substantially above 80 DEG C. The nitrosation is preferably carried out by means of alkyl esters of nitrous acid such as ethyl-, isobutyl-, and isopropylnitrite. Mercaptobenzothiazoles mentioned which may be used are 2-mercaptobenzothiazole 2 - mercaptotolylthiazole, 2-mercapto - 6 - nitrobenzothiazole, 2 - mercapto-6-chlorobenzothiazole, 2-mercapto-6-ethoxy-benzothiazole, 2 - mercapto - 5 - chlorobenzothiazole. In examples: (1) Phenylaminomethyl benzothiazyl sulphide prepared by interacting methylene aniline and mercaptobenzothiazole is treated in benzene solution with ethyl nitrite, and the precipitated nitrosated product removed by filtration. Three alternative experimental procedures for corring out this nitrosation are described; (2) The corresponding N - nitroso - p - tolylaminomethyl benzothiazyl sulphide is formed by nitrosating in a similar manner the reaction product of methylene p-toluidine and mercaptobenzothiazole. The invention comprises also the use of other aryl amines than aniline and p-toluidine such as the homologues thereof. The compounds of the present invention are useful as anti-scorches when employed with some other desirable accelerator known to cause scorching when used alone, such as zinc dimethyl dithiocarbamate. The combination of zinc oxide and fatty acids with the present accelerators is particularly desirable. The term "rubber" includes synthetic rubber, guttapercha and balata. Articles mentioned which may with advantage contain the accelerators of the present invention are inner tubes, tyres, thread, hose, dipped goods and mechanical goods. Specification 410,454 is referred to.ALSO:The vulcanization of rubber is accelerated by the addition to the mix of a nitrosated arylaminomethyl-arylene-thiazyl sulphide of the general formula where R is an aryl group and R1 is an arylene thiazyl group.
