Zusammenfassung:	The technology relates to a vent for a respiratory therapy system. The vent comprises a vent body having formed therein a plurality of slots allowing a vent flow of exhaled gases to ambient. The slots have a length, a width and a height. In examples the width of each slot is significantly greater than the height and the slots are arranged such that the widths of the slots extend in mutually parallel directions. The vent body may also be configured so that the length of each slot is significantly greater than the height and/or the outlet area is greater than the inlet area. In examples the vent is provided with a cover and an actuator to move the cover between a first position in which the cover at least partially occludes flow through the vent and a second position in which the degree of occlusion is reduced.
