Zusammenfassung:	A battery system, including a plurality of battery cells arranged in a battery housing. A cell housing of a respective battery cell and/or the battery housing have/has at least one degassing opening through which a stream of gas can escape along a predetermined degassing path into the surroundings of the battery cell and/or the battery system. A spark arrester prevents sparks and/or particles from being released into the surroundings together with the stream of gas and from igniting said stream of gas there. The spark arrester also acts as a heat exchanger for the stream of gas. It is designed to slow down the stream of gas and to direct it along a surface of the spark arrester such that it flows along the surface for at least a predetermined period of time.
