The treatment methods include administering a therapeutically effective amount of galloylated procyanidins having a preponderance of (−)-epicatechins. The extraction methods include isolating galloylated procyanidins having a preponderance of (−)-epicatechins from a sample that contains polyphenols, catechins, epicatechins, and galloylated epicatechins.
