Zusammenfassung:	The present disclosure is directed to utility poles having a subterranean vault that houses batteries to store energy. The batteries may be charged and discharged to the electrical power grid. The batteries may operate electrical components of the utility pole when grid power is not available. The utility pole in one configuration is a small cell pole. In one arrangement, the small cell pole and battery vault stores sufficient energy to operate for several day during a power failure.
