Zusammenfassung:	Provided are a coating device and a coating method which suppress the occurrence of exhaustion of a coating liquid. A coating device which applies a coating liquid to an upper surface or a lateral surface of a long substrate continuously traveling in a specific traveling direction has: a bar which is capable of being brought into contact with the upper surface or the lateral surface of the long substrate continuously traveling in the specific traveling direction via the coating liquid, and is rotated; and at least two stages of dam plates which are provided on the upstream side in the traveling direction of the long substrate with respect to the bar, and allow the coating liquid to flow to the long substrate via a space between the dam plate and the bar. The at least two stages of dam plates are arranged along the traveling direction.
