Zusammenfassung:The present invention relates to a simple one step oxidative dehydrogenation process for the synthesis of alkyl pyruvate with 100% selectivity towards alkyl pyruvate comprising reacting an alkyl lactate in the presence of catalyst at the temperature ranging from 25-100° C. for the time period ranging from 5 to 40 hours in an organic solvent and hydrogen peroxide to afford alkyl pyruvate.
