A printer 2 has a printhead 7, a head maintenance mechanism 41 for cleaning the printhead 7, and a controller 60. The controller 60 determines whether or not the cleaning is cleaning commanded by an operator, and if the cleaning is cleaning commanded by the operator, displays the ink cost corresponding to the amount of ink used for the cleaning.
