Zusammenfassung:	A pipe ram blowout preventer ("BOP") may be used for sealing about an object positioned in a vertical bore extending through the BOP. The BOP includes a pipe ram assembly movable towards the tubular, the pipe ram assembly including a packer assembly comprising an elastomeric body for sealing against the object. The packer assembly includes a packer insert within the elastomeric body, the packer insert comprising a generally interlaced structure, such as a wire mesh. The packer insert reduces deleterious effects of using a pipe ram assembly in high temperature environments by resisting crumbling of the elastomeric material when it becomes brittle.
