Zusammenfassung:Methods aiding in the assessment of cancer comprising use of the Flap endonuclease-1 protein (=FEN1) as a universal marker of different cancer types are provided. In particular, methods for assessing cancer from a liquid sample derived from an individual, which comprise measuring FEN1 in the sample are disclosed. Measurement of FEN1 is useful for the early detection of cancer or in the monitoring of patients who undergo surgery for tumor removal.
