Zusammenfassung:A road environment recognition system includes: an imaging device configured to capture a view in a traveling direction of a vehicle; an image processing region calculation unit configured to set a region in an image captured by the imaging device as an image processing region, the region including a central part and at least a part of a characteristic object present on a road, if any, in a traveling direction of the vehicle and having a predetermined angle with the central part being defined as a center, and to decrease the image processing region as the vehicle approaches the characteristic object; and a characteristic object detection unit configured to detect the characteristic object based on image information of the image processing region.
