Zusammenfassung:	In one embodiment, an improved network attached storage system is disclosed comprising a storage system connected to at least one external device via an external network. The storage system comprises at least one storage media and at least one controller presenting storage capacity of the storage system to the at least one external device. The at least one external device sends a request to the storage system, and the at least one controller receives and serves the request and sends a response to the requesting external device after serving the request. The at least one controller comprises a delay functionality, which introduces a variable length delay to an execution process of the request based on a current input/output load of the storage system, a maximum allowed request response time, a request completion time, and a measured current request execution time.
