The heater is disposed on either one of main surfaces of the mat. An exhaust gas purifying apparatus includes a casing, an exhaust gas treating body, and a holding sealing material. The exhausted gas treating body is canned in the casing. The holding sealing material is wound around the exhaust gas treating body and disposed between the exhaust gas treating body and the casing. The holding sealing material includes a mat including inorganic fibers, and a heater disposed between the mat and the exhaust gas treating body.
