Zusammenfassung:	In a first aspect, the invention is directed to a circuit for powering a gate drive for an electric motor for a vehicle with an electric motor. The circuit provides a primary power supply and a secondary power supply that powers the gate drive in the event the primary power supply fails. The primary power supply may draw power from the 12V battery on the vehicle. The secondary power supply may draw power from a high voltage battery pack on the vehicle that is normally used to provide power to the electric motor. By providing the secondary power supply to the gate drive, a 3-phase short can be applied to the motor in the event that it is needed as a safety measure even if there is a failure in the primary power supply.
