Zusammenfassung:	An exhaust treatment system includes a nitrogen oxide (NOx) monitoring module and a regeneration control module. The NOx monitoring module monitors first and second NOx levels in an exhaust stream produced by an engine, wherein the first NOx level is measured between first and second portions of a substrate of a NOx adsorber, wherein the second NOx level is measured upstream from the first portion of the substrate, and wherein the first portion of the substrate is upstream from the second portion of the substrate. The regeneration control module initiates a regeneration cycle of the NOx adsorber when the first NOx level is greater than a predetermined percentage of the second NOx level, wherein the regeneration cycle includes injecting hydrocarbons (HC) into the exhaust stream at a location upstream from the NOx adsorber.
