Zusammenfassung: | Methods are provided for inhibiting replication of an RNA virus in a cell infected with the virus, wherein the cell is characterized as having been or concurrently being exposed to a physiologically relevant concentration of a compound selected from ethanol, acetate, isopropanol, acetaldehyde or acetone, comprising contacting the cell with an effective amount of one or more of a HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor, a fatty acid biosynthesis inhibitor, thyroxine, or an agent promoting clearance of the compound from a cell. Also provided are methods to treat a subject having one or more cells characterized as having a physiological concentration of ethanol, acetate, isopropanol, acetaldehyde or acetone, in particular subjects that suffer chronic alcoholics, diabetes or starvation. |
