Zusammenfassung:	An apparatus and method for adding a layer of security to a database table includes assigning a self-protection policy to a selected database table. One or more monitoring attributes are designated for inclusion in the self-protection policy. These monitoring attributes include one or more conditions that, if satisfied either alone, in the alternative, or in combination, may be an indicator that an intruder has acquired or is attempting to acquire access to the database table. One or more reactive measures may also be selected for inclusion in the self-protection policy. These reactive measures specify one or more actions to be performed in the event the one or more conditions are satisfied.
