Zusammenfassung:	Methods and compositions for detecting, typing or characterizing HPV DNA are disclosed. The methods can include isolation of DNA from a patient and amplifying any L1 region of HPV in the sample. The amplicon from the L1 region may be analyzed to determine at least one of the presence of HPV, the type of the HPV and the risk category of any HPV. The compositions can include one or more primer sets for amplification of the L1 region of HPV.
