Reflectance-matching layer for cholesteric display having dye layer and reflective conductors

A display sheet comprises in order a substrate, transparent first conductors, a light-modulating material having different first and second field-changeable stable optical states, a light-absorbing layer that absorbs a portion of the visible spectrum and transmits a portion of the visible spectrum, substantially reflective second conductors forming conductive segments that operate in conjunction with the light-absorbing layer to provide reflective light additional to that provided by the light-modulating material, and substantially reflective non-conductive material, disposed over one or more background areas of light-absorbing layer not covered by second conductors, to provide reflective light additional to that provided by the light-modulating material such that the total reflected light in background areas more closely match the total reflected light in the segmented areas when both areas are in the same optical state
