Zusammenfassung: | A low penetration-force pinmat (20) has been provided for perforating an uncured laminate sheet (14). The pinmat (20) includes a mat portion (28) and a series of pins (26) extending from the mat portion (28). Each pin (26) includes a shank portion (38) and a tip portion (40) extending from the shank portion (38). The tip portion (40) has one or more facets (42) that are positioned adjacent to one or more edges (44). In one embodiment, three facets (42) are adjoined by three edges (44). These facets (42) are positioned at a predetermined facet angle (52) relative to a longitudinal axis (50) of the shank portion (38). Additionally, adjacent facets (42) are positioned at a predetermined blade angle (54) relative to each other so as to define a sufficiently sharp edge (44) for cutting and fracturing the fibers (32). The edges (44) are positioned at a predetermined edge angle (48) relative to the longitudinal axis (50) of the shank portion (38). These angles (46, 48, 52) facilitate the edges (44) in concentrating stress within the fibers (32) so as to fracture those fibers (32) at substantially low tensile loads and allow the pin (26) to penetrate the sheet (14) at a substantially low pressure. |
