Disclosed approaches provide a heterogeneous network for connecting remotely-located surgeon consoles and patient-side robotic surgery systems. Compatibility of a surgeon console with a patient-side robotic surgery system is verified prior to allowing the surgeon console to control surgical instruments and imaging systems of the patient-side robotic surgery system.
