Zusammenfassung:	According to one embodiment, a liquid crystal display device includes first and second substrates and a liquid crystal layer. The first substrate includes scanning line extending in a first direction, signal line extending in a second direction, pixel electrodes including and a common electrode. The common electrode includes sub-electrodes extending in the first or second direction. Each of the sub-electrodes includes a first portion having a width greater than the scanning or signal line, and a second portion having a width less than the first portion but greater than the scanning or signal line. The first and second portions are alternately arranged along a direction in which the sub-electrodes extend.
