Zusammenfassung:	A controllable shock absorber, in particular for motor vehicles, comprising a valve device comprising a bridge circuit with four non-return valves which are connected crosswise in the forward direction, the connection of a first bridge branch with two non-return valves that are arranged opposite each other form a pressure chamber and the connection of the second bridge branch with two non-return valves arranged opposite each other form a low pressure chamber, a hydraulic main slide arranged between the low pressure chamber and the pressure chamber, a pilot chamber which is connected to the pressurised fluid line which is part of the upper working space (traction area) by means of a fifth non-return valve, and a pilot valve which connects the low pressure chamber to the pilot chamber, the pilot chamber being connected to the high-pressure chamber by means of a diaphragm.
