Display system, related display method and computer program

A display system 10 of a device capable of travelling along a path between at least two distinct points and using at least one heading datum comprises: an image sensor 12 for acquiring environmental images along the path; an image processing module 14 for determining the drift of the device in real-time; a module 16 for determining information representative of the route taken by the device; a module 18 for real-time determination of the true heading followed by the device, from the information representative of the route and the drift of the device; and a module 20 for returning information representative of the true heading to a user. The display module may be a (mounted) head-up display (HUD) or a head-down display (HDD), and may recalibrate a synthetic image in the line of sight of the device associated with the true heading. The image processing module 14 may include an image analysis tool, i.e. an optical odometer. The image sensor 12 may be pointed towards the ground, and have a field of view which is reconfigured according to the instantaneous roll rate and/or pitch rate of the device, and/or as a function of the phase of travel of the device.
