Zusammenfassung:	An optical encoder includes: a code plate unit having an incremental pattern area, a first reference pattern area and a second reference pattern area, and the first reference pattern area arranged along a first direction and the second reference pattern area arranged along a second direction, an optical sensing unit having a first light-detecting element and a first light-emitting element, the light-detecting element possessing a first incremental detecting area and a first reference detecting area, the first light-emitting element located between the first incremental detecting area and the first reference detecting area, and a major axis of the first incremental detecting area extending along the first direction. When the first light-emitting element irradiates the first reference pattern area, that can generate a first reference position signal by the first reference detecting area.
