Provided is a thin retardation-layer-equipped polarizing plate which is capable of suppressing an increase in reflectance and exhibits excellent reliability in high-temperature, high-humidity environments when used in an image display device. This retardation-layer-equipped polarizing plate has, in this order from the visible side: a polarizing plate which includes a polarizer; a retardation later; and an adhesive layer. The retardation layer is an oriented solidified layer of a liquid crystal compound having a circular polarization function or an elliptical polarization function. An iodine transmission-suppressing layer, which is a heat-cured product or solidified product of a coating film which is an organic solvent solution of a resin, is provided between the polarizer and the adhesive layer in the retardation-layer-equipped polarizing plate, and the iodine absorption index of the iodine transmission-suppressing layer is 0.015 or less.
