Zusammenfassung:	To provide a thin polarizing plate and thin polarizing plate with a retardation layer, which are capable of suppressing fluctuation of electrode resistance in high-temperature high-humidity environments when used in image display devices.SOLUTION: A polarizing plate 10 comprises a polarizer 11, an iodine permeation suppressing layer 40, and an adhesive layer 30 arranged in the described order. A polarizing plate with a retardation layer comprises such a polarizing plate and a retardation layer disposed between the polarizer 11 and the adhesive layer 30, the retardation layer being an alignment fixed layer of a liquid crystal compound having a circularly polarizing function and elliptically polarizing function. The polarizing plate and the polarizing plate with a retardation layer have ITO resistance increase rates of 100% or less.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
