Zusammenfassung:	To provide a thin polarizing plate and thin polarizing plate with a retardation layer, which offer superior durability in high-temperature high-humidity environments.SOLUTION: A polarizing plate of the present invention comprises a polarizer, an iodine permeation suppressing layer, and an adhesive layer arranged in the described order. The adhesive layer has an iodine presence index of 0.050 or less. A polarizing plate with a retardation layer according to the present invention comprises such a polarizing plate and a retardation layer disposed between the polarizer and the adhesive layer, the retardation layer being an alignment fixed layer of a liquid crystal compound having a circularly polarizing function and elliptically polarizing function.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
