Zusammenfassung:	The present invention provides a tetraester of pentaerythritol, which is used as a refrigerator oil and the like, said refrigerator oil having excellent compatibility with difluoromethane refrigerants, while ensuring a viscosity range necessary for refrigerator oils. The tetraester of pentaerythritol is a mixed ester of pentaerythritol and a carboxylic acid, and the carboxylic acid is composed of 3-methylbutanoic acid and 3,5,5-trimethylhexanoic acid, or alternatively composed of 3-methylbutanoic acid, 3,5,5-trimethylhexanoic acid and at least one kind of carboxylic acid that is selected from among isobutyric acid, pentanoic acid, 2-methylbutanoic acid and 2-methylpentanoic acid.
