Zusammenfassung:	A surface light emitting device and a liquid crystal display device are provided to prevent non-uniformity of brightness by uniformizing brightness distribution in all directions. A plurality of light sources(12) are arranged on the same plane. A brightness distribution forming layer(18) suppressing the brightness variation of the light outputted from the plurality of light sources and having transmissibility is formed in an optical element(15). A reflective surface reflects the light outputted from the plurality of light sources and is positioned through an air layer between the optical elements while interposing the light sources.
