Network device and method for forwarding multicast packets thereof

A method for forwarding multicast packets includes the steps of: providing a plurality of ports; dividing the ports into several virtual local area network (VLAN), and establishing a blank forwarding table; snooping an Internet group management protocol (IGMP) report message; transmitting a probe request to every port; receiving a corresponding probe reply, and accordingly determining the port identifier (ID) which the corresponding probe reply is from; recording the port ID in the forwarding table; determining a VLAN ID according to the port ID and the divided VLAN, and accordingly updating the forwarding table; and forwarding the multicast packets to corresponding ports according to the forwarding table.
