The invention relates to a method and a device for changing pairs of working rolls (2) and/or pairs of back-up rolls (3) on roll stands (1), wherein a linear drive (7) for chocks (4) that are guided in supporting planes, in a direction perpendicular to the rolling direction, induces the pair of working rolls (2) mounted in the chocks (4) to withdraw or insert, and wherein a linear drive (7) withdraws or extends the pair of back-up rolls that is supported on a roll changing frame (11). In order to save time and effort, the pair of working rolls (2), after coupling with the linear drive (7) is extended and decoupled, and the same linear drive (7) is coupled with a roll changing frame (11) that is withdrawn between the back-up rolls (3a, 3b) and, when the roll changing frame (11) and the upper back-up roll (3a) are supported on the lower back-up roll (3b), is extended or withdrawn as a single unit.
