Personalized data replication for wireless devices using filters

A system and method is provided to enable mobile computing devices such as personal digital assistants (""PDAs""), web-enabled telephones and laptop computers to maximize their communication bandwidth during data transfers and synchronization with applications and data on a remote data storage on a server. User configurable data filters are defined by a user of the mobile computing device that enable the user to select specific information to be transmitted and stored on the mobile computing device. Data filters can also be created and maintained by a system administrator on the server. The system administrator can create a portfolio of filters for one or more users using a web-based graphical user interface.
