Conditioning of fabrics

Apparatus for rapidly conditioning wool or wool containing fabrics comprises a perforated rotatable drum 2 mounted for rotation within a conditioning chamber 1. A fabric 4 is transported through chamber 1 on and by drum 2 while a stream of conditioned air is forced therethrough by a fan 5. The chamber includes an adiabatic humidifier 11-12-13 and water droplets remover 14. Vanes 18 vary the amount of ambient air that is admitted, vanes 19 control the total air flow and vanes 20 the amount of air that passes through humidifier 11-12-13, such that fabric 4 is rapidly conditionable to a given regain valve merely by manipulating vanes 18, 19 and 20. A process of conditioning a fabric to give a minimum regain increase of at least 5% within a very short time of the order of tens of seconds is also disclosed.
