Optical laminate and image display device

The present invention provides an optical laminate and an image display device containing the optical laminate, the optical laminate containing a polarizer and a phaser, wherein in-plane variation of an amount of change in an in-plane retardation value when the optical laminate is placed at a high temperature is suppressed. The solution of the present invention is to provide an optical laminate and an image display device containing the optical laminate, the optical laminate containing a first protective layer, a polarizer, a second protective layer, and a phaser in this order, wherein the polarizer is a polyvinyl alcohol resin film with a thickness of 15 [mu]m or less in which a dichroic dye is adsorbed and oriented, when the tensile elastic modulus at a temperature of 85 DEG C of the second protective layer is E2 [MPa] and the thickness is T2 [[mu]m], the formula (i) :E2*T2 ≤ 16000 is satisfied.
