Zusammenfassung:	To provide a method of efficiently manufacturing a retardation layer intermediate having a very precisely controlled slow axis direction, and a method of efficiently manufacturing a polarizing plate with a retardation layer. A method of manufacturing a retardation layer according to an embodiment of the present invention comprises punching out a raw roll of a retardation film having a slow axis into a predetermined size while correcting for a deviation of the slow axis in a width direction of the raw roll from the longitudinal direction to obtain a sheet-like retardation layer intermediate having a slow axis in a long-side direction.
