Zusammenfassung:	The present invention is related to a method of treating or preventing cataract formation with extracts obtained from the fruiting body of Phellinus linteus. The maker constitute is due to 3,4-dihydroxybenzalacetone (DBL). The mechanism involved in PLE preventing cataract formation by higher glutathione (GSH), superoxide dismutase (SOD), and lower malondialdehyde (MDA) in lens epithelial cells (LECs), and the increases in the mRNA and protein expressions of glutathione S-transferases Mu 3 (GSTM3) in LECs. Our data reveal that the usage and benefits of PLE for preventive activity and PLE could ameliorate age-related cataract.
