In particular, the present disclosure provides an article comprising a metal substrate and a taggant sheared into the substrate. The metal substrate has an upper surface, a lower surface, and a middle portion therebetween. The taggant is embedded within at least one of an upper portion and a lower portion. The present disclosure provides a method for making a rolled metal article having a taggant embedded therein and a method for making an embossed metal coin including a taggant embedded therein.
