Zusammenfassung:	Provided are: a liquid-crystal alignment agent that has a high adherence to substrates, that does not precipitate even at a high solids concentration, and that provides a stable film thickness; and a liquid-crystal alignment film that uses this liquid-crystal alignment agent. The liquid-crystal alignment agent contains the following components (A) to (D) and contains component (C) at 20 to 50 mass% with reference to the overall mass of the liquid-crystal alignment agent. (A): At least one polymer selected from the group consisting of polyimide precursors and the polyimides that are the imidation products of the polyimide precursors. (B): A non-amine Si coupling agent. (C): At least one organic solvent selected from the group consisting of [gamma]-butyrolactone, [gamma]-valerolactone, N-ethyl-2-pyrrolidone, N-butyl-2-pyrrolidone, and ethyl carbitol.
