Zusammenfassung:The present invention provides a sliding member which has a low coefficient of static friction with respect to a corresponding member, and which is suitable for use in a reciprocating slide section. The sliding member of the present invention comprises a steel base metal, and a sliding surface on the steel base metal. A sliding layer is composed of 20 to 40 volume% of graphite and the remaining part of copper alloy. The copper alloy includes 1 to 15 weight% of tin (Sn), and the remaining part of copper and inevitable impurities. The sliding layer is in the copper alloy grid, including an island-shaped copper alloy region with a sea-island structure surrounded by graphite and having a dispersed morphology. The island-shaped copper alloy region is an island-shaped copper alloy region with a length of 25 to 500 [mu]m in a direction parallel to the sliding surface.
