Fluid application device and method

A fluid applicator system comprises an applicator device for applying a topical antiseptic fluid to an area of a subject's skin, and a storage device. The applicator device may include a handle with a proximate end and a distal end. A base may be coupled to the proximate end of the handle, and a substantially hydrophilic foam may be coupled to the base. An end piece may be coupled to the distal end of the handle, and at least one abrasion layer may be coupled to the substantially hydrophilic foam. The storage device may include a wall and a bottom surface that defines a chamber therebetween. The endpiece of the applicator device may be configured to engage with the wall of the storage device to form a seal that substantially prevents contaminants from entering the chamber when the applicator device is inserted into the chamber.
