Image processing apparatus and method

The invention provides an image processing apparatus. The image processing apparatus includes a dividing module, a first judging module, and an adjusting module. The dividing module is used for dividing an image into a plurality of sub-images. The first adjusting module includes a lightness statistics unit and a judging unit. The lightness statistics unit is used for generating a lightness statistics based on the image and determining a lightness threshold according to the lightness statistics result. The judging unit is used for judging whether an average lightness of a target sub-image of the sub-images is larger than the lightness threshold. If the judgment of the judging unit is yes, the average lightness of the target sub-image is adjusted by the adjusting module.
